From a student paper...

"Einstein's novel, the world as I see it ... lacks an overall plot... There are no characters... [but] before reading this novel, I wasn't aware that Einstein had as many controversial and dynamic thoughts..."

you mean... like the thought that NOT ALL BOOKS ARE NOVELS?!!

I once had a student write a cause-and-effect paper about Mendel asserting that he was so persecuted for his work on genetics that he had to run away and become a monk.

I once had a student misspell "assess" as "asses". When they didn't fix it in the rewrite I finally broke down and wrote, "It's 'a-s-s-e-s-S'. 'a-s-s-e-s' is the plural for ASS!"
